Hello Subsnax readers and lovers of snacks,
It’s time for Snack Attack, the feature where I periodically round up snack-related news and tidbits.
Pop-Tarts News
I recommend reading this delightful New York Times article by a woman whose family were taste-testers for Pop-Tarts shortly after they were introduced in the 1960s. Did you realize Pop-Tart was a play on the words “Pop Art”?
Also, I learned from reading this that Jerry Seinfeld is making a movie about Pop-Tarts! I guess when it comes out (there’s no official release date yet, but it’s expected to be released sometime in 2023), I’ll have to create another Movie + Snack pairing.
Oreo Cheesecake
NYC restaurant Junior’s (they call themselves “home of the World's Most Fabulous Cheesecake”) recently announced the launch of an OREO® Cheesecake, which is available in supermarkets like Costco, Stop & Shop, Target, Key Food, Foodtown, Publix (should you be lucky enough to live near a Publix!), etc.
Fun fact: Many years ago, I had a dream about an Oreo pie, so then I made one. It was delicious. I’m willing to bet this Junior’s OREO® Cheesecake is also pretty delicious, although I have yet to try it myself.
Seven-Layer Dip Chips
These new limited-edition chips from Kettle promise “seven delicious layers of flavor in each bite.” I don’t know how they managed to cream the flavors of seven layers of dip into each chip, but good for them! Listen, nothing is going to beat a real seven-layer dip, but if you don’t have a seven-layer dip around, or you only have three layers, or whatever, maybe you could give these a try and they’d suffice.
Apple Cider Bacon
Could apple cider be replacing pumpkin spice as the new autumnal food trend? Well, according to the folks at Hormel, “Apple cider continues to gain popularity as a foundational flavor of the fall season.” Who am I to argue?! "The apple cider flavor is getting more and more popular," said Aly Sill, senior brand manager for the Hormel® Black Label® bacon brand.
That’s right, it’s another limited-edition fall product: Apple Cider Bacon. If you like bacon and you like apple cider, then perhaps you should give these a try.
What’s your favorite Pop-Tart flavor? Are you pro-cheesecake? How many layers does your dip have? And would you eat apple cider-flavored bacon? Tell me in the comments!
Got a new snack you’d like me to write about? Let me know!
